Linden Homes worked with the GLA, Tower Hamlets Council, and the East London Community Land Trust to bring forward proposals for the redevelopment of the listed former St Clements’ Hospital site in Mile End.
The hospital site had been closed down for some time and the land was gifted by the GLA to facilitate the development of a Community Land Trust on the site and the delivery of both social housing and community housing as well as market homes and ancillary developments.
A series of community workshops were held to gain the views of those living closest to the development and to secure positive feedback at an early stage. This was followed by a public exhibition.
The workshops focused on specific topics and a round up session gave residents the opportunity to come back and see how their ideas had been translated into the proposals.
An additional tranche of work was undertaken to identify and work with a community group to take on the operation of some of the additional community space.
The plans were approved unanimously at committee.
